Happy Halloween!

I can't believe that it is the 31st of October. Today, we are having our first snow flurries so it does make us realize that it is Halloween. We have been fortunate as far as weather is concerned as it has been about 10 degrees above normal last week. However as of yesterday, we are back to colder and much more windy conditions.

Because of the windy conditions yesterday, most of the leaves have fallen and this morning, DH and I raked those darn leaves. We got about half of the lawn done so will have to get the rest of it done another day. Since age is catching up to us, we have to know our limits and quit before over doing it. Also, DH was in the hospital again for 5 days. Again, his heart was checked and the doctors say his chest pain is not due to heart - a good thing. However, they did the scope test to his stomach and again, all was normal. They did release him from the hospital without finding out what the problem is but he is still scheduled for more outpatient tests.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween. Because of where we live, two miles from a main road, we do not get any trick or treaters. So, it will be a normal quiet night for us. Until next time, have a great week.

Colourful Trees

Even with the showers today, the colorful leaves are still quite impressive. Quite a bit of the leaves have already fallen but this year, the trees were full and so, they are still loaded. That means, a lot of raking in the not too distant future.
Today, we are having some very calm weather one minute, and the next minute, we get a downpour shower. So, today will be a day inside catching up on blogging, quilting, etc.
Yesterday was a day from Hell. I received a call from my cousin, telling me my 99 year old aunt fell and is now in the hospital with a broken hip that required an operation. She did make it through the operation and is now awaiting an opening in a nursing home. Then she tells me that her brother's wife and her own mother-in-law both died this summer. I hang up from her phone call, the phone rings again, and it is one of my neighbours calling to say his wife passed away the night before. I was scared to pick up the phone after that. Hopefully, today will be a better day.
I have been doing very little on my quilt as my daughter and her hubby came for a wonderful visit. On top of that, we were able to celebrate my hubby's birthday. So it has been a very busy time lately. My hubby is setting up my sewing room with a TV on the wall. I use it a lot even if I just use it for noise while quilting.
Have a great weekend, everyone, and do try to keep dry.

Autumn Colours

We are already in October and the leaves have turned to a beautiful array of fall colours. We went to Moncton last weekend and it was a very colourful trip. The red leaves, this year, are very vivid and they seem to peek through all the other gold, orange, and green leaves, making it just a beautiful arrangement.

On Sunday, we celebrates DH's cousin's 80th birthday, then on Monday, we celebrated DH's mother's 89th birthday. Both were very nice parties but it is hard to watch your weight at functions like that.

We had a little scare last week. DH felt a pressure in his chest and his having had heart problems, the doctors did not take any chances. He was admitted to the hospital and put through stress tests and blood tests. He was given a clean bill of health, and much to his pleasure, he was released from the hospital.

Between our trips out of town and DH's visit to the hospital, plus winterizing our RV and getting our outside property ready for winter, I have not had time to blog or to do any quilting. I am hoping to be able to get to my quilting this afternoon.

We are getting ready for a visit from DD and her DH. They are going to be here on my DH's birthday which is going to be really nice. We have not seen them for a long time, but then, her DH is very busy at work and we do understand their situation. We do keep in touch by phone and e-mails, probably more so than when they lived close by. Looking forward to seeing them again.

Have a wonderful weekend and a great week everyone!

Here is the Quilt I'm Working On

This is the quilt I am presently working on. There is a lot of hand quilting on this one as I am quilting a star in the little squares, quilting in the ditches for the outlines and doing different designs on the borders. It is going to take a long time as this is the queen size quilt. I am enjoying doing the hand quilting as I don't feel rush on this one. I had started to piece it together before we went to Florida in January and finished to top last month. I guess between camping, having visitors and working outdoors with DH, it took me a long time to finally put it on the quilt frame.
We have started getting tropical storm watch here in New Brunswick. We had planned on going to the Moncton area on the weekend but because of the Tropical Storm Earl, we feel we should stay home to make sure everything fares well. It has been a long time since we got a storm of that magnitude. Hopefully, we won't get too much damage.
DH has added a little railing on our back deck and it has really made it look nice. I am so happy with all the work he has done around our place this summer. We have had a very dry summer this year and our lake is very low. However, because of the very high humidity this past week. there has been several boats on the lake all week. It has been nice to see so many people using the lake this summer. We have had record breaking temperatures this week. The forecasters are telling us that by Sunday, the temperatures will come down to 19C whereas we have been having mid 30's Celsius and very humid.
Everyone have a great weekend. For those in the storm area, keep safe and dry.

Summer Going By Toooooo Fast!

Here we are, the 18th of August, already. Summer is going by so very fast that I just don't know where the time goes. We have had beautiful weather this summer.

DH has done a lot of outside work, a new deck, a new walk and some landscaping. We have done very little camping this summer but on the upside, I had time to put the top of a large quilt together and as of Sunday, it is now on the quilt frames. I have done a little bit of quilting on it but since we are going camping on the weekend, I had to do some cleaning and loading of the RV. I am happy with the result of the colour combination, so I hope I won't screw up on the quilting. I hope to be able to put a picture of it soon.

This past Sunday, we decided to have a potluck supper on our shore. We had a great turnout with over 40 people showing up. We had more than enough food, all of it very delicious and the desserts were awesome. All agreed that we should do this more often.

Have a great weekend everyone!

What a Beautiful Weekend

We started off the weekend by celebrating our 44th wedding anniversary on Friday. We were out for supper with another couple. Great food and great company. The weather was really nice all weekend too. On Saturday, we just worked around the house. Sunday, DH and I, along with my brother and his wife, my nephew, his wife and his two little girls all went to my Mother's nursing home and celebrated her 91st birthday. It was fun.

Today, I put up 2 baskets of peaches. I peal them, cut them up and add a syrup and freeze them. They are awesome tasting in the middle of winter.

DH is so close to finishing the walkway to our side door. It already looks great. We have already purchased the railing for the deck and stairs, so that will next on the list of things to be done.

I have also had a few minutes lately to work on my quilt. I now have 16 squares done and have 8 more to go. I will be happy to get this one on the quilting frame. I hope to be able to put pictures of this quilt relatively soon.

Have a great week everyone!

Summer a Busy Time

On my last blog, I mentioned that we had an awful mess in the attic of our RV. Well it took almost a month, getting the RV to the dealer for them to take down the ceiling, and over $1,700 for us to regain our RV to a usable state. The dealer found 2 big mice (dead for a while), a large squirrel, two little squirrel tails, and the wing of a bird. How all that got in there, we have absolutely no idea. The mother squirrel, we figure, had died about a week before the ceiling was taken down. After they put the ceiling back up with new insulation in there, the bad smell was gone. We had Sears to come in and clean the carpets and the sofa which was the only piece of furniture left in the RV. Then we went at cleaning the ceiling, walls and floors. Once that was done, we cleaned the rest of the furniture before putting it back in the RV. She is back to normal and smells clean. We have used it on two outings so far and things are back to normal there.

Our summer so far has been extremely busy. DH has been working hard putting up a new deck for our side door and now is building a walk to it. Last week, DH and I washed the siding on the house, the spiders and earwigs are just terrible this year. We are having a man come in next week to spray - guarantees to get rid of all of this. We are told that because of the milder winters, they are more plentiful.

Last weekend, we went to St. Martins and camped at our favorite spot. It was the beginning of Old Home Week and again, this year, they had yard sales from one end of the village to the other. So, of course, I was on a search mission again for anything that I collect. I was fortunate enough to find a very pretty cornflower dish at an extremely good price. It was one of those moments that you want to tell your car driver, 'Start the Car', for fear they will change their mind.

While in St. Martins, we met a lovely couple from British Columbia. We made friends very quickly and they came back with us and stayed a couple of nights with us. Camping is so much more fun when you meet people from afar.

I do believe I have most of my work caught up and hope to get back to my quilting. I am missing it.

Well, enough of my woes for today. Have a great week everyone!
