A Very Busy Summer

I bet everyone has given up on me and blogging. Not a chance, I am still here. I can't believe how fast the summer is going by. Yes, I did say summer. Since the beginning of August, we have had hot and humid weather and so, we are able to work outdoors without getting wet. Of course, we did get some bad weather too as in Hurricane Bill but we were fortunate here and had rain and fairly high winds but no damage.

On August 13th, we left for St. Martins and parked our RV in our favorite campground for the weekend. On Friday, we drove to Sussex for the annual Flea Market. I think they must have expanded it again. We spent most of the day there and still didn't see everything. It was sunny and hot but we are not complaining. I only managed to find one piece of my cornflower crystal and a couple of other dishes. DH found a couple of tools. Of course, we had to stop at lunch time for curly fries at Big John's booth. I figure I used up all those calories with all that walking. The only trouble is that we had friends with us and on the way back to St. Martins, it was 87 F and so we decided to stop at DQ for ice cream. I had a caramel pecan mudslide - hmmm!

On the Saturday, we had a potluck supper with tons of food, cooked a large turkey with a large pork roast on top of it in one of those oil free cookers, plus salads, fresh veggies, and of course, sweets. We ended up having 22 people there for this feast. Then the campground had an auction that evening and the proceeds went for breast cancer research. All of us attended and we ended up spending a decent amount. For example, our group ends up bidding against each other, and DH outbid the others to get a small bag of pink peppermints for $19.00. It was fun and it was for a good cause.

This past weekend, we went to Moncton for the official opening of Golden Years Estates, where my MIL is now living. They did a great job and we had a wonderful time. On Sunday, DH and I went to visit the Church in Scoudouc, as they are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Church and the 200th anniversary of the village of Scoudouc. Since I was brought up there and since the Church had a museum type of display, we went. They even had pictures of some of my ancestors on display. It was great.

We are looking forward to having Cathey and her DH to visit next week. They have not been home since moving to Nova Scotia in the Spring, so I'm sure we are going to have a great time.

Fun Time at Yard Sales

Yes, we did go to St. Martins for the Old Home Week. Even with the threat of rain, we decided to go yard saling, just to check it out. I came across a red cornflower rose bowl and was so excited as I collect cornflower crystal. To top it off, even with it being a bit dirty, it was very cheap so I immediately bought it. When I got it home, I washed it and presto, just like new. The red cornflower is quite rare too. I didn't care that it started to pour rain before we were done.

We have been so very busy lately. We were on a day trip to Moncton yesterday and tomorrow, we are going to spend lunchtime with my Mother to celebrate her 90th birthday. Then we come home and pack up the 5th wheel trailer and go camping in St. Andrews which is next to the Atlantic Ocean. Hopefully, the weather will be nice but if it isn't, we will make do. We plan on a day trip to Calais, Maine, to look at more quilting fabric. One never has enough you know.

Today has been hot and humid but at least it hasn't rain for TWO days. By dark tonight though, it was back to fog and humidity big time.

I have also been working on my quilt. I now have 8 squares done out of 24. My problems is to find time to work at it. Maybe by the time I blog again, I will try to take a picture of the blocks that are done.

Finally a Sunny Week!

We are finally getting some sunny weather. Today was the first time that I had to water the flowers in my little flower garden since the middle of June. From then to the first of this week, it has been foggy and misty and rain every single day. It was so damp that it brought a whole new crop of mosquitoes and black flies. However, I was out with DH today and we washed both the truck and the vehicle and I did not get one bug bite. It really was lovely.

I now have all the pieces cut out for my next quilt and I have been marking them and getting them ready to be sewn. I still have to get a piece of material in a blue shade to make up one of the small borders. I never knew how hard it is to match up blues. There are so many different shades of blue. One of these days, I will take a picture of a made up square so you folks will be able to see the start of this quilt.

We are planning a camping trip to St. Martins in New Brunswick next week. Next weekend, it is their Old Home Week and they usually have a yard sale from one end of the town to the other. Almost every house has something out. Quite a few of them are into making craft items and so they have those craft items for sale. It is fun to walk through and see what people have for sale.

We have had a couple of duck families going up and down the Lake. The ducklings are getting quite big now and it is almost impossible to distinguish between them and the mother duck. We also have a big family of Canada geese. We have to keep watch on the geese because they try to come on our lawn and because of the mess they leave behind, we don't want them on the lawn.

We just finished watching NASCAR Sprint cup racing, it was quite a finish. I enjoy that racing as much as my DH does. It is a good thing we are nighthawks as the last two weekends, the races did not finish until 12:30 or 1:00 a.m. I may be a nighthawk but I am not a morning person.

Happy Canada Day to Fellow Canadians

Yes, it is me. I'm still around but have been busy with working outdoors around the house and with doing some travelling.

We did take a trip to Nova Scotia to visit Cathey and her Hubby and we had a great time even if it did rain a lot while we were there. Of course, we have had a lot of rainy days in June and we have not had really nice summery weather yet. This past week has been the pits, rain every day. Getting back to our visit to Cathey's, we got to see her new home and it is just beautiful. She and her Hubby were very gracious hosts as well and it was a wonderful visit and I want to thank them both and we are very proud of both of them.

This past weekend, we took part in a multi-family yard sale. We had it on Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. At 11:40 a.m., the rain came down in a downpour and so we closed it about 20 minutes early. It was fun and we got rid of a lot of stuff. We actually can walk around now in the storage area of our big garage. Wonders never cease!!!

We took a camping trip to Bangor, Maine, about three weeks ago. Well, if you can believe it, the girls all headed to Marden's (they have a big selection of fabrics) and Jo-Ann's Fabrics. Me, being me couldn't go to either place without buying more fabrics. I swear I must addicted to fabrics. It feels so good to walk out of those places with fabric. Since then, I have started another quilt. I have most of the material cut and some of it marked ready to sew. This one is in bright yellows and bright blues. Now all I have to do is find some time to spend at it.

We have also had some visitors. They have been family mostly. It is fun have visitors especially if they have not been here since our renovations. Everyone is impressed with DH's workmanship as I am. I just heard that Cathey is coming for a few days in mid-July. Looking forward to that visit, always enjoy seeing them.

Here It Is

WooHoo!!! Finally finished! This is the end of my latest project. It took a lot longer than planned but I had a lot of interruptions, between going away on trips, having renovations done on our home, having visitors, and having to do outside work on the landscaping around our home.

This quilt is called a sampler quilt and the top was done when I took a quilting course. We were given a pattern block per week and then we would go home and design a block that would use that particular pattern and finish it for the next class. I enjoyed most of the block except the Celtic one. I don't particularly like applique, so my reason for not enjoying that one. The hand quilting was done in the ditches on the blocks and then I quilted designs on the blue borders and on the black borders. It is queen size too which took longer to quilt.

On the weekend of May 22nd, three units including, our friends, my brother and his wife and DH and I all packed up and went to the Pumpkin Patch in the Bangor, Maine, area and spent 5 days camping there. While there, the ladies of the camping party went shopping for quilting materials seeing all of us quilt. I found some gorgeous material and now, I have to find a pattern that will make the most of this new fabric. I have to use it up soon as I have no more room to store any extra material. I really think I must be addicted to buying quilting material. LOL

This week has been very nice weather wise but it has brought out the black flies and mosquitoes in full force. Whenever I do the wash, I hang it outside and it seems to send out the attack order to those darn insects. Last week, I put in my flower plants in the little flower garden along our back walkway. Again, those insects were out in full force but I wore my bug suit so I could finish that job.

Like I said before, it has been a very busy Spring and looking like it is going to be a very busy Summer for us. I am really looking forward to visiting Cathey and her hubby around June 21st. They will be in their new home by then, but we have to be in the Shediac area for June 20th, so we are taking our 5th wheel and we are going to park at a campground near where they live. It should be a wonderful visit.

Finished Quilting

WooHoo! I jut finished the quilting on my last quilt and have now taken it off the quilting frames. Now all that is left to do is the binding. As soon as I get that done, I will post a picture of the finished product.

It has been a very busy week. We took our RV out of storage and I have been busy washing the ceiling, walls and floors in it. I have also washed all the bedding. I just have the kitchen area left to do.

This week, the weather was nicer and warmer so I decided to wash all the windows in the house and put our screens in. The blackflies are now out and we cannot open window without having screens in place.

On top of everything else, we had visitors, my brother-in-law and his wife for a couple of days. We did enjoy their visit though. We are starting to get ready to go away next weekend. Three couples in all are planning to take our RV's to Bangor, Maine for their Memorial Weekend. It should be fun - just hope for good weather.

We had a rainy day here but it is clearing now and the lake is fairly calm and very pretty.

Happy Mother's Day

Just a note to wish all the Mothers out there, I want to wish you all a very Happy Mother's Day. I celebrated last weekend with DD and her hubby. Spending the weekend with them was super great. On Mother's Day, DH and I are going to celebrate again as we are taking my brother and his wife out to supper at Montana's to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and Mother's Day for the ladies. I'm hungry already.

NASCAR racing is just about done, so I better say bye for now. Time to go to bed, as soon as the race is over.
