Sorry to Have Been Away So Long

Well folks, here is one reason that I have been absent from blogging. My DH has done a beautiful job and I am very proud of him. I now have a wonderful kitchen and don't have any reason not to cook. - Good thing I love cooking.

We have also been very busy trying to get the lawn raking. We have a fairly big area for lawn and we have lots of trees around. Because of the very windy winter and spring, there were tons of broken branches on the lawn. Since we had to get those off the lawn before we could do any lawn cutting.

Last weekend, we decided to go visit my daughter and her hubby in their new location in Nova Scotia. It was an absolute wonderful weekend and it was so great seeing them again. Of course, Brie spent most of her time on grammy's lap. She is still the cutest. DH and her hubby took us all around touring their area and we even walked trails in one park. We also got to see some seals off shore - it was fun. We are looking forward to another trip there in the not too distant future. Thanks for the great weekend!

We have also been taking trips to Moncton to visit my MIL. She has settled in quite well in the Special Care Home and is as happy as can be expected. It is a beautiful home and we are happy that she could settle in there.

I have also been working on my quilt any time I had a minute. I have quilted over three quarters of it, so I should be able to finish it fairly soon. I am getting happier with this quilt now that I have quilted a fair amount of it.

Best get going as I want to watch "Survivor" which is coming on TV shortly.

Till next time!

Sneak Peak at my Sampler Quilt

Well folks, you now can see why I haven't been blogging. The top picture shows off a bit of the quilting frames that my hubby built for me. He even made a little tray on each end of the frames, which one can be seen in the picture, for my tea, coffee or cold drink. After he built these frames, I just had to make quilts - hard job!!! LOL

The second picture is the quilt I put on the frames a week ago. This quilt top was made a few years ago (5 years ago, I think), but for some reason or other, I never quilted it until now. When I started it, I had all the colours except the black and I needed one more colour to give it a zip. I decided to add the black and lo and behold it worked. The backing is the same material that I used on the big border. I am quite pleased with the way it is coming together. I love the hand quilting part of any quilt. I have rolled twice so far, so the quilting is coming along nicely.

The temperatures here have been above freezing quite a bit and we have had a fair amount of rain. We are getting rid of our snow quite fast and all this rain and melting snow has caused the river which runs through the middle of Fredericton to rise and people living along the river to keep a close watch on the rising water. An ice jam at this stage of the game would mean serious flooding.

I live on a lake and the only thing we worry about is when the ice starts to move, if the winds come our way, the ice can pile up on the shores and cause damages to the lawns, trees and walls that happen to be in the ice's way. Some years, the ice just melts away and no harm comes to anything.

We are now seeing robins around our house which is very encouraging that Spring is here. We are starting to think about RVing even if it is at least two months away. There is still about 5 feet of snow piled up where we store the RV in the summertime, so I guess it will be a while before we can take our RV out of storage and get it ready for travelling.

I better get going if I want to get back to my quilting. Have a great day everyone!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Just a note to wish everyone Happy St. Patrick's Day. For a change this year, we did not have a storm on March 17th. In the past years, we have had really bad weather on this date.

Today, I housecleaned my stairway and downstairs hallway. I was not looking forward to it as the ceiling in the stairway is really high and I needed DH's help to hold the ladder so I could reach it. Yahoo, it is finally done!

I have decided that when I am finished my housecleaning, I am going to put my sampler quilt on the frames to do the quilting on it. I never did finish that particular quilt top. I seem to remember that I do have the backing for this one, so I will have to go looking and find it. Once on the frames, I will be able to quilt on it when I have a minute to spare.

I finally got my countertop on and I am really, really pleased with the look it creates. Yes, when it is totally finished in the kitchen, I will post a picture of it. Hopefully, it won't be long now.

As most of you know, DD has moved to Nova Scotia. Well, she has purchased unlimited calling in the Maritimes and DH and I have unlimited Skype calling so it has been really quite nice to be able to talk with her anytime it strikes us. I don't feel that she is so far away now.

Must get going, and do a couple of things before I sit down to watch TV.

Take care everyone!

I'm Back

Folks, sorry for the absence, but due to a number of things happening all at once, my computer just laid there unattended.

As most of you know, Cathey went to Regina last week to her husband's graduation. So, as all good grandparents, we took care of Brie, our granddog. She was spoiled a little as all she wanted to do was lay on my lap - no objections from me.

On top of that, we are still in the renovation mode but we are getting closer to the finish. Thank heavens. Our kitchen cabinets are all done except for the countertop which we were supposed to get last week, but due to the builder receiving the wrong top from the head company, we are having another delay. The countertop builder had ordered the right top but they sent him the wrong colour. Arghhhh!

While DH was doing the renovations, I started my housecleaning and that is going quite well. All I have left to do is my laundry room, the walls in my guest bedroom, the stairway with the hallways upstairs and downstairs. Then I will be done. I am quite proud of myself as I have cleaned out MOST of the unnecessary things in closets and dressers. We do tend to collect things.

On Tuesday, DH and I went to Moncton to visit his Mom in her new home. She is happier now but still says she would have loved to get back to her apartment. While in Moncton, DH visited his favorite place - Princess Auto, and Fabricville, my favorite place is next door, so that is where I went. However, Fabricville is closing that store at the end of April and they had everything 50% off. Having cleaned out and reorganized my fabrics in my quilt room, of course I had to buy more fabrics when it is 50% off. Love it when a plan comes together.

Also on Tuesday, DD and her hubby made their move to Nova Scotia. We are really happy for them. We will miss them but when they do get internet and a phone line, we will be able to get in touch with them. We do wish them all the luck and happiness in the world in their new adventure and to her hubby, really hope he enjoys his new job.

Well, I must get going as I still have a lot of work to do. Today, it is really beautiful and sunny out but a little cold. It is not cold enough to keep a couple of snowmobiles out on our lake right now.

Have a great day everyone.

Thank You for the Wishes

Since Pumpkin, aka Cathey, my DD, set me up with a blog, she knows my password and has once or twice posted things on my blog. As most of you have seen on the latest blog posted, she posted a Happy Birthday announcement to me on it. As a result, I have received birthday wishes from several of you and I do thank you for those wishes, even if, at my age, I am trying to forget that I am getting older. LOL

We are still very busy working on the renovations. DH has all the painting done except for the trim around the windows which has yet to be put in. Our cabinet doors are presently on order as is the counter top. We have decided on a shaker style door for the cabinets, and have bought glass shelves for the china cabinet with internal lighting. Can't wait to see it finished. I am pleased with the colour we picked for the kitchen walls and with the white cabinets, it looks great.

DD slipped and fell on the ice on Tuesday night and hurt her elbow. As a result, we talked her into coming to stay with us for a couple of days, so Mom can look after her. Since she is moving to Nova Scotia in March, this also gives us a chance to spend some time together before she and her hubby leaves.

My MIL is settling in very nicely in the Special Care Home that she ended up in. We are so pleased to see her taking part in the activities, and she sounds great on the phone when we call her.

Must go as I am now the chosen one to have Brie on my knees for a while and it does make it more difficult to blog.

Thank you again for all the good wishes and everyone have a great week!
